When made of silicon, the anode can retain much more lithium, but silicon's disadvantage is that it pulverizes during charging cycles, lowering the battery's performance and life-cycle. The Stanford research team found a way to avoid this problem, by leveraging on nanotechnology. To store lithium, they use silicon nanowires, each with a diameter one-thousandth the thickness of a paper sheet. When soaking up lithium, the nanowires grow four times their size and then come back to normality, but due to their extremely small wired shape, they don't fracture in time. Hence silicon is better than carbon after all, it only has to be used as nanowires. This expanded storage capacity that Li-ion batteries proved to be capable of could make them appropriate for electrical cars and, as Mr. Yi Cui believes, also for homes and offices, where they could be used to store electricity produced by rooftop solar panels. Although the new batteries are not yet available, the Stanford team has filed for a patent and, hopefully, the batteries will start to be manufactured in 2008. Beijing has been a focal point for China’s most important religious observances since it become the country’s capital in 1420. Of all the temples built to worship the mighty forces in nature, the Temple of Heaven in southern Beijing is easily the most significant one.

Running an empire that held the worlds largest population, the Chinese emperors couldn’t just rely on intimidation and an effective government. They had to rule by legitimacy from Heaven.

As you enter this tremendous temple, a mysterious world once closed off from the average person is now ready to show all its mystery.

The Hall of Abstinence is on the west side. The emperor used this area to prepare himself for the prayers to Heaven. He would keep himself away from alcohol, meat, garlic, onions, and sexual relations. The hall was kept simple, for a luxury-loving emperor wouldn’t be favored by Heaven.

Standing opposite to this, on the east side, are the Animal Slaughtering Hall and the Divine Kitchen. Cattle, sheep, pigs, and other sacrificial animals were slaughtered and prepared for the ceremonies here. Almost 50 workers would have to work for quite a few days before they could get the job done.

In the hall of Divine Music Administration, imperial orchestras would practice their compositions all day and night. When the ceremonies began, no mistake was tolerated.

Visiting this hall, you are amazed by the antique instruments. Every two hours, a mock performance is staged.

The Circular Altar, standing at the center of the temple, is the most important structure in the Temple of Heaven. A radial terrace, the altar was built for the emperor to worship Heaven. Dont skip your photo opportunity here, as in ancient China this was believed to be the center of the universe.

And this was where the emperor would bow on his knees to take vows and confirm his legitimacy to rule China. A Chinese philosopher once wrote:If the ruler is right, then the creative energy of the universe will be harmonious and compliant. The rain and wind will be timely. Auspicious stars will appear, and then, the yellow dragon will descend.

Now with the mandate from Heaven, the emperor is able to legitimately rule China.

With a microphone in front of him, he said, “I was not able to Attend the weekly piano lessons as there was no one to send me because my Mother was sick with cancer.

Aadhavan audio launched in style

Sathyam Cinemas, big screen played perfect host on Wednesday evening to the audio launch of Udayanidhi Stalin’s K.S Ravikumar directed Aadhavan, featuring Suriya and Nayanthara.

The ‘vizha nayagan’ was Harris Jayaraj, the music director of the film, combining with Suriya for the fifth time, to churn out more hits.

Noted director Shankar released the audio and Tamil Film Producers President Rama Narayanan received it. Later a slick trailer of the movie was launched by producer R B Choudhry and received by Ilayathalapathy Vijay.

Two songs from the film were also shown to the invitees. The one shot in the virgin locales of Iceland Edho Panithuli… featuring Suriya and Nayanthara was the highlight. The other song with lead stars- Vadivel, Saroja Devi, Ramesh Kanna, and others dressed as tribal’s singing Maasi, Maasi… to the drum beats of Harris and shot in the mountains of Kodaikanal was a mass number.

However what had audiences on their feet was the 45 second teaser trailer song Hasilie Fisiliye… Anjana . sung by Karthik and Harini with rap by Dr. Burn and Maya. Most of the people were humming this fusion number, which is sure going to be the “stopper number” in the album.

Singer Chinmayee was the emcee and she made quite a few glitches, though KS Ravikumar came to her rescue and corrected them. Among others who attended the launch and spoke were Vivek, Sasikumar, Gautham Menon, Dharani, Abhirami Ramanathan, Hari, Vivek’s witty speech was the pick of the day.

The notable absentee at the function was heroine Nayanthara who was shooting for a Malayalam film in Kerala. Mohanlal the chief guest whose name was printed in the invitation card could not make it for the function, as his flight from US was delayed.

Suriya asked the crowd to observe a two minute silence to pay respect to late actor Murali who plays a very important role in Aadhavan.
